About Simi Oluborode

In training: European Commission

Simi Oluborode is a first-class law graduate of Trinity College Dublin and a Trinity Scholar, recognized for outstanding academic achievement. She was awarded the Henry Hamilton Hunter Memorial Prize for achieving the highest overall degree result in her graduating class of 123 students in 2025 and also received the Bloomsbury Prize for the highest mark in Evidence.

Simi has gained broad legal experience across corporate, tax, finance, real estate, intellectual property, and technology law through roles with leading international law firms, including DLA Piper, McCann FitzGerald LLP, and Matheson LLP in Ireland, and White & Case LLP in Paris. Her work has involved legal research, regulatory analysis, and transactional support, with a particular interest in European Union law, digital regulation, and the governance of emerging technologies.

Her undergraduate dissertation, Bridging the Technological Divide: Rethinking the Role of European Union Equality Law in Combatting Algorithmic Discrimination, examined the capacity of EU anti-discrimination law to address algorithmic bias. Through a detailed analysis of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, the dissertation explored how transparency obligations, enforcement mechanisms, and fundamental rights protections must evolve to safeguard equality in an era of automated decision-making. The fourth issue of Clarus Press Law Magazine subsequently published this research.

Simi will start a Blue Book Traineeship with the European Commission at the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) in the Grants and Procurement Unit in March 2026. Her role will involve supporting procurement and grant management functions, contributing to the development of internal procedures, conducting ex ante verification of tender and grant documentation, and assisting with legal advice on public procurement, financial regulation, data protection, and access to documents. The traineeship will provide hands-on experience with EU financial rules, contracting processes, and the governance of large-scale funding programs.

Simi is a native English speaker with C1 proficiency in both French and Irish. She remains actively involved in mentoring, outreach, and legal education initiatives.
